Viral
Planting is a mass of living or plastic flowers arranged to reflect
various viral infections. The pattern will be beautiful whilst disquieting.
Making images of potentially deadly illnesses omnipresent will increase
the level of dialogue about various aspects of ill-health. The arrangement
of the flowers will change for each exhibition depending on which virus
is prevalent in the area or in the media. Engaging with such a delicate
subject will raise many questions. Does the work offer the participant
the opportunity to confront and overcome fears about a particular illness
or will the work provoke a reaction that will lead to increased stress?
Will the side effects of the artwork outweigh the potential benefits of
the intrinsic beauty of the composition?
